[OOC] Books!

All of these are in the .epub format.

Dune - Everyone plots, people die, Paul wants to be in a different story.
Dune Messiah - People still plot and die, Paul is in raburabu with Chani forever and ever.
Children of Dune - People still plot and die, Leto decides he's gonna fix the human race if it's the last thing he does (it is)
God Emperor of Dune - Less plotting, less death! Leto is the Emperor and everyone hates him.
Heretics of Dune - Somethingsomething years after Leto's death, the Empire is in chaos and everyone gets sexy.
Chapterhouse Dune - The Clone Wars.

To quote a pimp post on tumblr: "You’ve got politics, religion, warfare, messiah figures, culture clashes, giant sandworms, drugs, crazy ninja shit IN THE DESERT, ecology, environmentalism, empires, you name it, it’s there." I would totally recommend the first three books. Dune is the least craziest one and God Emperor of Dune is great, but you should have a lot of tissues. Heretic of Dune + Chapterhouse Dune have new characters, but they are AWESOME characters (LIKE THE MOTHERFUCKING MILES TEG), so I would say read those too.

[OOC] Leto and His Feelings: The Essay

I hear the wind blowing across the desert and I see the moons of a winter night rising like great ships in the void. To them I make my vow: I will be resolute and make an art of government; I will balance my inherited past and become a perfect storehouse of my relic memories. And I will be known for kindliness more than for knowledge. My face will shine down the corridors of time for as long as humans exist.

[OOC] How did I miss this

Jessica: And what are you Leto?
Leto: Why don't you tell me? That's why you're here isn't it?
Jessica:  ... You remind me of your father.
Leto: And my grandfather. My namesake. Your beloved Duke. Such admission would be complicated. We may have to enter a realm of intimacies that would leave us both ... uncomfortable.

AKA GRANDMOTHER IF YOU ADMIT I'M LIKE MY GRANDFATHER WE MAY HAVE TO HAVE SEX AND WOULDN'T THAT BE WEIRD.

[OOC] Essay

Ghanima: He runs and runs and runs. And when he's exhausted himself, he returns to me, puts his head in my lap and asks me to help him find a way to die.
Farad'n Corrino: But why does he want to die?
Ghanima: To save himself from the sacrifices he must make, sacrifices for the future of us all

Okay, so this is an essay on Leto. I will try to sum up
-the state he is in after the events of Children of Dune
-Leto and family
-his interaction with normal people and why he is slightly stunted in that department

This essay will have spoilers for the entire miniseries.

[OOC] Powers

Typing this straight from my copy of Children of Dune.

"Leto sat on the Lion Throne to accept the homage of the tribes. Ghanima stood beside him, one step down. The ceremony in the Great Hall went on for hours. Tribe after Fremen tribe passed before him through their delegates and their Naibs. Each group bore gifts fitting for a god of terrifying powers, a god of vengeance who promised them peace.

He'd cowed them into submission the previous week, performing for the assembled arifa of all the tribes. THe Judges had seen him walk through a pit of fire, emerging unscathed to demonstrate that his skin bore no marks by asking them to study him closely. He'd ordered them to strike him with knives, and the impenetrable skin had sealed his face while they struck at him to no avail. Acids ran off him with only the lightest mist of smoke. He'd eaten their poisons and laughed at them.

At the end, he'd summoned a worm and stood facing them at its mouth. He'd moved from that to the landing field at Arakeen, where he'd brazenly toppled a Guild frigate by lifting one of its landing fins."

IN A NUTSHELL
  • Super strength
  • Super speed
  • Invulnerability
  • Nearly immortal
  • Can see the future
  • Can access memories all the way up to his first ancestor Agamemnon. The primary personas that guard Leto's mind from possession and attack from within is father-within (Paul Atreides) mother-within (Chani) and Harum (tyrant leader that Leto struck a bargain with in the novels)
  • Can summon a worm
  • Voice - The Voice can be used to control a person, manipulate them, make them believe they're doing things out of their own free will. The Voice can also kill you. :)
  • Reading human behaviour - Leto's not a mind-reader, but he can come pretty damn close. To quote Alia "I can read truth in the slightest tick of human behaviour".
  • prana-bindu - Leto is very, very, very flexible.
  • Can survive without food or water.

[OOC] Stats/Permissions

Age: 15
Height: 5'7"
Weight: He's heavier than he looks. I'm not sure but he definitely can't be lifted easily.
Medical Info: His skin cannot be pierced by... anything! You'd need something short of a nuclear weapon just to leave a mark. If you do manage to make him bleed, his blood would probably feel off/weird since his body is permanently saturated with spice.
Blood type: DO WORMS HAVE BLOOD TYPES?
Eyes: Blue on blue. Leto has no whites in his eyes.
Hair: Brown
Physical traits:
HOKAY. Leto's skin is partially covered with wormskin. It's fixed to his body and cannot be removed by any means. Other than that and his unusual eyes, Leto looks like an average 15 year old.... really.
What's Okay To Mention Around Him: The Emperor can handle whatever you've got.
Abilities: Please refer to this.
Notes for the Psychics: Okay, I'm not sure how anyone can read Leto's mind. First off, his mind is filled with millions of people, dating all the way back to the Greeks. If you attempt it, I assume there will be a backlash of some kind. Father-within or Harum-within will step in.
Can I shapeshift/bodyswap/spit at/step on/etc?: He'll laugh but sure.
Maim/Murder/Death: ... Pretty much impossible, but talk to me!
Can I makeout/kiss/hug: lol yes
Cooking: He cooks better than your mom.

[OOC] APP POST

Character: Leto Atreides II
Series: Children of Dune (Miniseries)
Character Age: 15

Canon: Arrakis. Dune. Once, the desert planet of the universe, important only for Spice; a mystical drug that allows people to travel in space and see visions of the future. Now, it is the imperial capital for the Atreides family, protected by the legacy of Emperor Paul Atreides, the Fremen Messiah. Except Paul's dead and his younger sister Alia is slowly going insane, while his children attempt to escape plot after plot to destroy their family. Surrounded by political intrigue and a legendary Golden Path to free the human race, Leto Atreides, son of Paul and heir to the Imperial Throne, finds himself confronted by all possible futures and pasts and an hourglass that is running out of time.

Born with more than a million memories and personas ready to engulf him, Leto is surprisingly strong-willed while also having enough wit and intelligence to outsmart anyone three times his age. With a penchant for teasing and a powerful innate curiosity, Leto likes to do the unexpected and explore the unknown with his own power and desires, always trying to prove to himself and the world that he is a creature of his own making. At the same time, Leto is highly perceptive of human complexities and blunt enough to confront the weaker-minded about it. All in all, Leto is a gentle and hopeful person, believing in inherent good rather than transparent evils. Remember, he's saving the universe for
you.

Note - Leto is taken from the end of the miniseries - wormskin and all.

Sample Post:

How peculiar.

Of the many paths I ran into the desert, this is the first time I have ever run completely astray. There appears to be a large overgrown oasis with humans that have lost themselves in the decay of this place. It is sad to see how the human race here has fallen into this continuous cycle of death and rebirth, something that stirs pity within me. Perhaps I will find a way to save you as well, even if I have not seen it with my eyes. Do not worry. I can see past the horizon and my prescient eyes alone should not be my only guide. That would be ridiculous - eyes can be blind to the horizon's beauty and never perceive what is beyond the thin line of vision. The world is more than what we see. Come, sit with me for a while. My legs are weary from the distance and my sister isn't here to soothe me away into dreams and nothingness.

Do you wish to share stories? I must confess, I know nothing of this place and its culture and not knowing something is unusual for me. Part of me wishes to keep it a secret forever, but there's another part of me that desires the learning and to preserve it as an everlasting part of my being. Oh, I don't mean that in the literal sense. I doubt consuming your flesh would help you live on inside of me. But come closer and let me hear your voice speak of things that are beyond my knowledge. Tell me of the Director and her crusade for justice. I have seen many lives just like hers, but there is a difference between living a life and learning about it. Of course, for you, you seem to have lived your life, died and returned. Most would find that miraculous. I find that saddening.

But I digress, don't keep me waiting. The Director and the mythos that surrounds her... is she beautiful as she is wrathful, dragging people from across the ages to this unkempt paradise of grass and swamp-water? After all, the old Earth adage is proven to be true... "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned"; my aunt being another good example. Or perhaps she has a hidden path of motives that no-one can discern. Perhaps she's doing this for the sake of us all. In time, I will understand and I hope it is through her words instead of the confused murmurings the undead possess. I wonder if the creature of the lake, as old as the time of this place, would offer me more understanding. We could see eye to eye. Or even beast to beast, as who is less human than myself?

But again, I find myself changing the topic. This place fills me with excitement and I'm letting that get the best of me. So many unknown variables, so much that I do not know. What a feeling to be imbued with! Part of it frightens me... frightens, yes! But I will face my fear and I will let it pass through me. Oh, you wonder what it is I meant? The Litany Against Fear, a saying that soothes away any fright you might face. Though, I can't imagine what terrifies you anymore. You're well beyond the threshold of fear, are you not? But since you are interested... "I will not fear, fear is the mindkiller. I will face my fear. I will put it in--"

Ahhh, you're welcome to make changes to the Litany if you wish to for different purposes, but I find... your additions most unusual and very sexual.
